The grandkid would love to stay in a chateaux near Bayeux. We are looking for suggestions as there are several that sound good and - maybe - worth paying for. And we are thinking of a private guide, rather than group, as we could get back to an earlier train (about 4:00) to get back to Paris. Suggestions?

I heartily recommend Roel Klinkhamer with Victory Tours in Bayeux. Also Sean Claxton of Overlord Tours is a good one.

The grandkid will love this charming chateaux which is near Bayeux and not far from the Normandy beaches. You should book this one.

I can also vouch for Sean Claxton as being a wonderful guide. But the last time I looked at his website, he provided his services in the client's vehicle - in case that's an issue.

www.toursbylocals.com will offer you many choices of local guides along with customer reviews of each guide. I’ve used tbl for several different cities and always had a great experience

My favorite Normandy guide is Alan Bryson of www.firstnormandybattlefield.com
He provides his own minivan and will pick you up in Bayeux.
