Need some guidance, after Bayeux we need to head to Chateau de Chantore in Bacilly. Was hoping not to have to hire a car to get there, can we train it to Avranches then Taxi to the Chateau? Are there taxi's in this area if we want to head out for dinner or lunch to the closest town?? The Chateau does not provide dinner. There will be 3 adults. After our short stay at the Chateau we are heading to Donville-Les-Bains. Thank you!
Hi,
Have you asked the Chateau?
There are definitely a few taxis in Avranches, but in a town of that size they will require pre-booking, so you would need to schedule all your meals...
You would also need a taxi to get to Donville-les-Bains afterwards.
But I'd seriously consider a car (you can rent cars at Hertz in Bayeux, or at several places in Caen), if I were you... driving in rural France is really easy, and being in the countryside without a car makes you a "prisoner", to some degree.
Thank you, will look at hiring a car. Petrified to drive but hopefully the roads will be relatively quiet and easy to navigate
Yes, it will be quiet. No worries there. Navigation is easier than in the USA, I find signage is better. Roundabouts are plentiful but they're not too hard to figure out once you get the hang of it (plus, I'm seeing more and more of those in the USA anyway!).
And you can rent automatic cars.
Thanks, we’re coming from Australia, will work out the driving other side of road ;)
Ah, sorry for the wrong assumption!
It does add an extra layer of difficulty: DEFINITELY rent an automatic to remove the extra difficulty of changing gears with the wrong hand. Nothing impossible, seeing how many UK drivers we see on our roads.
