Bayeux advice - D Day beaches and Mont. St. Michel

I will be arriving in Bayeux via train from Paris on a Tuesday afternoon in August and will be there till Friday morning. Planning to take the Hotel Churchill shuttle to Mont. St. Michel one day and do a one day D Day beach tour through Bayeux Shuttle. Any advice on which to do first or any other tips for the Normandy beaches? I will not have a car.

Consider taking the train to Caen and then the tram from the train station to the city center and then the bus to the Caen Memorial museum, one of the best World War II museums in Europe. Or spend a day in Bayeux, gazing at the tapestry, cathedral, and Battle of Normandy Museum. Or take a tour to Utah Beach and St. Mere Eglise, which probably won't be on your one-day D-Day tour.

Hi Nancy,

I agree with T. There is plenty to see in Bayeux to fill a day and I also think the War Museum in Caen is the best I have seen. I don't think it matters what order you do Mont-Saint-Michel and the D-Day beaches in. I found them both to be quite emotional days - D-Day beaches for the sense of tragedy and Mont-Saint-Michel for the history. Perhaps visit the War Museum before you visit the beaches so that you have a greater sense of the events that took place but I really don't think it will matter.
