Bathing suits for boys and men ?

Interesting title eh?

I seem to remember reading that boys and men are required to wear speedo type bathing suits in public pools in France.... Can anyone confirm?

Thank you! We have the swim caps from our trip to Ireland last summer but so used to having more of the surf shorts for boys.

Off shopping I go!

There's some room between skin tight speedos/jammers and street wear (bermuda shorts or shorts). Can't men wear boxer-cut bathing suits?

In many pools in France, men cannot wear 'boxer cut' swimming shorts. The rule is a bit silly. The stated reason is that they don't want streetwear in the pool for hygiene reasons, but we all know that the hygiene risk to the pool is not dust. There is no pool that does supervised naked soapy washing before entering the water, hence the real contamination risk is not addressed. It is of course not shorts worn on the street. Nevertheless tight swim suits like speedos are usually required in public pools.

Woinparis---a "jammer" is a men's swimsuit that is tight like a Speedo brief but covers the mid-thigh. They are now worn in competition for most events, other than diving. And competitive swimmers wear them for training. Definitely not street wear! So they should be allowed but I have no information on that.

Every male I have seen in public swimming pools in Paris wears Speedos or they don't go in the pool. Need bathing cap, towel and toiletries, too.

You can wear your speedos instead of underwear before you go into the pool, and change into clean underwear after swimming.

What a goofy rule! Given my size, there's no way I'd ever appear in a public pool wearing a Speedo, as I'd look ridiculous! Does that also apply to hotel pools? So much for Rick's suggestion to make shorts double as swim trunks.

The suits are available at the pools. Some sell them at the check-in counter, others have vending machines with everything you might need. Men's suits are likely about 20 euros. They're required at public pools, not at private (e.g. hotel) pools or beaches.

The one's I got are more like square cut, shorter than my boxers. They don't have much of an inseem - maybe 2 inches - but they aren't exactly speedo style either.

A hotel pool is not considered a public pool per se and will have different rules posted as to what you are expected to wear.
Call the Hotel if you want accurate information.

Did this last week in Dinan. I got booted for having an American bathing suit. The pool had a vending machine with men's bathing suits for 14 euros. I just bought one and got right back into the pool.
