Bastille Day

Hi all,
I will be in Paris on Bastille Day (15 July, I believe) and was wondering what to expect?

Thanks!
Cheryl

July 14th is Bastille Day. Will you be there a day earlier than you said?

On 14th there will be a military parade down Champs Elysée. Night before there are firemen's balls( street parties) anyone can go to, pay a fee , all proceeds go to supporting firehalls. All over Paris. Fireworks on night of 14 the on Champs du Mars( near Eiffel Tower) . go early and picnic. Getting metro home is tough after, better if you can walk back to hotel.

P.S. The French don't like it when we call it Bastille Day. They just call it July 14th.

Oh, my gosh. Now I am really embarrassed. I am going to be in London for that week and won't be in Paris until the 19th. I just got a bit carried away.

Have a pint of cider on the 14th and pretend it's champagne :-) Enjoy.

I'll be in France on the 14th! We are taking a dinner cruise that night. Thanks for starting the thread anyway! Does anyone know if the Louvre will be open on the 14th(it is a Tuesday)? Usually the Louvre is closed on Tuesday but historically open and free on the 7/14. I was hoping they would have it open that Tuesday for the 14th.

Have you checked their website? They usually post all the closure dates.

The Louvre is open, and is also free on the 14th. I'll be there this year on the 14th as well. Looking forward to it! :)
