Has anyone toured the Basilica lately? I've read that it is under renovation and there is a lot of scaffolding in place. Wondering if it is worth a visit. Also, any suggestions for things to see nearby if I do visit? Thank you!
I have not been since last April.
Here is what the official website says:
"Attention: Due to important works in the chevet from January 2022 to March 2023, please consider the following instructions :
The choir's radiating chapels will be hidden by a scaffolding until the end of the choir's work in 2023.
Loud noise pollution may disturb your visit.
We apologize for this inconvenience."
Here is a link a map to the Basilica. Scroll down to download the Guide Booklet (for some reason for me the default language is Polish, so change that unless you are fluent, lol). The Chevet they are referring to is up a flight of stairs and is behind the altar.

It looks like the access to the crypt is open so you can visit the Roman Ruins plus the tomb of Marie-Antoinette and others. Louis the "somethingth's" heart is down there as well. I also like to view the tombs in the area of # 9, 10 and 11.
The construction probably will not stop me. It's not a terribly expensive venue and is interesting to me. I don't think I even booked ahead last year when I went as it's never crowded. The neighborhood give me a little anxiety - I'm fine walking from the Metro to the Basilica and back and/or walking thru the market stalls if it's a market day, otherwise I'm in and out of there.
When is your trip? I'm traveling in April and if I go I can certainly let you know what I think although there is an indication that the work will be completed in March. Unknown if that will run to schedule.
Thank you Pam for the infomation. I am travelling at the end of March.
I was there at the beginning of January. Yes, the scaffolding covers the radiating chapels, but it is still well worth a visit. The crypt is fully open, as is the rest of the church (beyond the radiating chapels). Absolutely still worth it, especially because you don’t need to book a timed entry in advance.
Well, Betsey, you can update me, lol. As in does it actually look like it will be finished the end of March….
