Basic hotel in the 7th

I'm planning a trip to Paris for April/May next year. I want to be close to the Metro and the #69 bus route. Suggestions for a basic hotel that's not outrageously priced are welcomed.

I’m not sure what price point you’re looking at. Do you have a range in mind?

One hotel that used to be in regular rotation for me and used to be the least expensive of my “regulars” was Hotel Beaugency on Rue Duvivier. The last time I stayed there was 2024, I think, and I felt it had gotten pretty tired and needed a refurb. This winter when I looked at prices I saw they had changed some policies and for their stay of more than 3 nights (lower rate) they’d changed to billing immediately on booking and having a non-refundable 1st night. That was a deal-breaker for me but you might be able to work with their policies. Staff has always been very nice there.

I’ve never stayed there but Hotel Grand Leveque on Rue Cler is sometimes less expensive. It underwent a major renovation during Covid (like back to the studs) but I’ve not been in there since, just saw pictures online.

No idea what a "hotel that's not outrageously priced" might be in euros per night, but meaningful recommendations require something more concrete. And a year from now, expect the normal price increases.

I'm hoping to find something for less than €200, but I realize that's a tall order for April/May. I'd spend more if it were within a few blocks of the #69 bus route.

Thanks for your suggestions.

I looked on Booking.com and saw a few at that price but not in the 7th.

I just booked an Ibis hotel for under 200 euros a night. This is a huge chain, very basic, no frills at all, but they are well-designed and all over the city.

Given the route of bus 69, it also includes (at least) the 15th, 1st, 4th, 6th, 11th, and 20th arrondissements up to Place Gambetta, near Père Lachaise Cemetery.

It's helpful to note the name of the area in Paris in these posts (e.g. "Eiffel Tower area, Marais, St Germain, etc). Many of us don't know the arrondissements by number. I had to look it up.

As the 7th is one of the most expensive arrondissements in Paris, it will be almost impossible to find a budget hotel. I would urge you to consider almost any other area.

I would learn this well beforehand. This is basic information for traveling in Paris.

" I would learn this well beforehand. This is basic information for traveling in Paris." Learning the geography and layout of any place one is going to visit ,as well as local transportation infrastructures . is absolutely essential for a smooth travel experience . Google maps are very useful in that regard

Just noting that the OP knows where the 7th arr is located, the comment quoted is from a person who responded to the question.

I suggest using a site like Booking.com that allows you to filter by price and use a map to see locations of the properties. Also, depending on your dates you could be running into an event that is bumping up prices. Large concerts, Easter, and the Paris marathon come to mind. If you haven't bought plane tickets already or have a specific date requirement to travel, try adjusting +/- a week and see if things open up.

Catherine, CL and Elizabeth have given good advice to begin checking with Booking.com. Only people who have stayed in a place can submit reviews, and they are a good place to start your search. It's great that you are beginning so far ahead, so you aren't under pressure in your search, and will undoubtedly be successful in it!

I've been to Paris many times, and I have no idea where arrondissement boundaries are or what the associated numbers are. It's in no way crucial information.

The idea that one must be able to draw these on a map and number them properly in order to visit Paris is bemusing to me. I'll admit this knowledge would be a requirement for a tour guide in the city, though.

" The idea that one must be able to draw these on a map and number them properly in order to visit Paris is bemusing to me. " Sorry . but I think you're missing the point . I have also visited Paris often and I can't " draw those lines on a map " I can't do that on any of the large cities I visit . But I do know the rough layout of large cities well and the general delineation of various areas and neighborhoods .. Having that knowledge at hand certainly makes it easier to find one's way around and use time far more efficiently .

+1 for Steven's post.

Of course it's not necessary to know the exact boundaries of each arrondissement. But to have a rough mental layout of the city makes it so much easier to get around, not backtrack constantly and get lost less frequently, although getting lost can have its own rewards, I'll admit.

Hôtel Bac (Rue du Bac, tout près de Bl. St-Germain) in the 7ième has been a mainstay for my family since decades but we no longer stay in big cities in France so not sure who owns the hotel nowadays or what the neighbourhood is like.

I think it's easier for everyone reading the post to know the name of the neighborhood. That's all. Easy peasy, not a big deal, not rocket science here. I didn't know my comment would trigger everyone. I've been to Paris a few times myself and I go by neighborhoods.

Try the Hotel Le Pavillon on Rue St. Dominique. The 69 bus runs along RSD and the Blvd de la Tour Maubourg metro station is about two blocks away.
