Before starting this topic, I searched and read all forums about getting from Colmar to London. We plan to end our "land" travels in Colmar in September 2026 and then travel to London at the end of the month for a couple days before a cruise. Up to this point, I've assumed we'd take the train from Colmar to Paris to London, but as all have written it is a long day. Several forums recommended taking a train from Colmar to Basel, then flying from Basel to London, we might consider a BA flight late morning/early pm to LHR. That sounded good, until I read many, troubling, recent reviews of Basel airport on TripAdvisor. Basel airport check-in and security sounded like chaos and long lines, even though small. I searched for comments about Basel airport experiences on Rick Steves forums but didn't find any. I'd appreciate any thoughts or advice about the airport or the Colmar-London itinerary (considering that we are in mid-70's and early 80's and travel with backpacks and small roller bags.) Thanks.
I haven't been to Basel airport so can't advise on that. But why don't you look at Strasbourg airport? There are direct flights to London.
I like Cat's idea, but I can tell you we flew into Basel airport and navigated thru it and out in a very short amount of time. It was about five years ago, however. If you had some extra days, Basel is a very attractive, Rhine town to visit. Otherwise, I think Strasbourg is the best idea.
Thanks both of you for the input. The reason I am considering Basel rather than Strasbourg is because Strasbourg flights to London all have atleast one stop (except Easyjet which we don't want). Basel has several non-stop flights to London.
Ah, it was the easyJet route I was thinking of. Is there any particular reason you don't want to fly with them? I fly with them all the time and am generally very happy with the service.
