Going to Paris to see the French Open (Tennis) in 2019. Am interested in going a small group on a barge in the Burgundy area after the event. Has anyone taken a barge trip and any recommendations of a company they would use again or which one they would avoid (reasons why not). What should we be asking about when we compare companies.

Are you talking about a hotel barge cruise or a drive it yourself rental canal boat trip?
I can't provide first-hand experience, but if you're thinking of a multi-day trip with meals and sleeping on the barge, you'll want to look using the term péniche-hôtel. Most of those, I believe, are for a set duration (a week or so) and do not come cheap. Here is one vendor that has several options (large vessels for large rivers, péniches, and rental boats [bateaux de location]).
Another rental possibility, if you want to pilot your own vessel, is les Canalous.
