There are some Road Scholar tours that are by barge in France. It looks like 2 of the 3 offerings are sold out for this year for the single supplement. I KNOW they have single supplements on them because I've considered the one in Alsace.

The one with openings is the one in Provence. I've done several of the locations on a Road Scholar tour and then last Fall I did a 2-week tour with Seymour travels that was based part of the time in Carcassone so traveled around that area. Very interesting!

What type of barge did you have in mind? Where in France?

There are small barges that mostly travel on canals and some rivers. These barges usually accommodate 4 to 24 passengers.

There are larger barges that carry over 100 passengers that travel the rivers.

Single passenger are welcome on all of these.

Here's a link to the blogs of Barge Lady Cruises , a Chicago based company that has been selling barge cruises in Europe for ages. We booked with them 25 years ago on a barge cruise in Burgundy. Their website is a good source of information if you're looking for the small barge experience.
