Hello, wise (or at least experienced) travelers! We just booked 14 hotel nights in September, into Barcelona and out of Paris, and would appreciate itinerary suggestions.
We wish to include Barcelona, the South of France, and a trip to the Normandy beaches. We have been to Paris and want to spent at least 4 days there. The Marriott 5 nights for the price of 4 (using reward points) also tempts us to spend more time in Paris, but we don't want to be frugal to the point of stupid.
We like to be efficient with travel days, and when possible park ourselves for a few days in a town we can use as a base. We will rent a car when needed, but expect to take the TGV from south of France to Paris.
Do you think a day trip (guided tour) from Paris to Normandy beaches is sufficient to get a good understanding and appreciation of the history?
I know it's a big area to cover in two weeks, and am grateful for suggestions on how to break it down a far as nights per town, which town(s) to stay in South of France, and efficient ways to get from point A to point B. We are active travelers, and look forward to the art museums in southern France.
Many thanks!
