We will be in Amboise the last week in August, and we're interested in the hot air balloon ride. Is there one that you would recommend over another, or are they all pretty much the same? Also would you recommend morning or evening? Thanks so much for the info.

We went with Aerocom Montgolfieres http://www.aerocom.fr/. I chose them because they will refund your money if the balloon can't go up--other companies only give rain checks.
Our original reservation was for a morning flight. The day before our scheduled trip, the company let us know that due to weather conditions there was a strong possibility we would not be able to takeoff the next morning. They offered us spots on an evening flight instead. The lighting was amazing at dusk and watching the sun go down was magical. As it turned out, due to fog, that was the last flight that took off that week.
I don't know how Aerocom compares to other companies, but we were very happy with the service--it was the highlight of our trip.

I had a wonderful experience with Balloon Revolution in Amboise. I was staying nearby and it was perfect. I would try to book ahead in case they fil up. See if the have a refundable option. I didn’t book ahead per my AirBnB host and got really lucky to get squeezed in. It was a beautiful ride at sunset!
