Hi,
I will be traveling to France with my husband in September and we will have one night in Paris. We've both been to Paris before and not super interested in tourist sites anyway, but neither of us have been to Montmartre, so I'm hoping to stay there and spend our time mainly experiencing/walking around a new part of the city. I'd like to find accommodations that aren't a chain and are under $200/night. In a decently safe area and near a metro station is a plus. Any recommendations?
A safe area is important. We got into some trouble wandering into the wrong part of Montmartre.
We stayed at the Alba Opera Hotel close to Monmarte. We loved the hotel and location.
Suki, where did you go? Are there specific streets/districts we should definitely avoid?
I've stayed twice at the TimHotel Montmartre. It is part of a small chain but it's in a great location about 4 blocks up a gentle slope from Abbesses metro stop.
@Suki, could you share the location of the unsafe areas and the nature of the trouble you ran into?
Katie, I had also inquired a few months ago about a certain hotel (le Relais Montmartre Hotel) in Montmartre. This is the link to comments that I received: https://community.ricksteves.com/travel-forum/france/le-relais-montmartre-hotel
