Planning to make Giverny home base for three days/two nights for visiting Monet's garden and a side trip to Auvers sur Oise. Any suggestions?
2 years ago we stayed at La Reserve, which is a little bit , perhaps a mile, off the main street of Giverny in a pasture setting surrounded by forest. Beautiful 2 story manor house among apple orchards, La Reserve has the most elegant and relaxing rooms named after colors which is the theme for each room. The owners are very welcoming and their breakfast, served in their wonderfully appointed dining room on antiques dishes with serving pieces, you never knew existed, is delicious. Homemade jams, jellies, eggs from their chicken roost, yogurts, pastries and so much more, just to start you off on your perfect day. Plenty of parking and a nice setting to come home to after a day of sight seeing.
Thank you- it looks beautiful. There will be four of us- doesn't look like they do anything other than person rooms. : (
Two good places to stay in Giverny are Le Clos Fleuri (see www.giverny-leclosfleuri.fr) and Hôtel la Musardière (visit www.lamusardiere.fr). Both are a walkable distance to Monet's home.
You might try Le Coin des Artistes: http://www.giverny.fr/en/tourism/accommodation/bed-and-breakfast/giverny-bed-and-breakfast-le-coin-des-artistes/. We stayed there in 2012. It's an easy walk to and from the gardens and Monet's grave, and we parked right on the street across from the B&B for free. Breakfast at the big table with other guests is fun, as are the owner's dogs. We were in the Impressionist Room. It is right on the front overlooking the street. The town is very quiet after all the day trippers leave, so we had no problem with noise.
Things may have changed in the past 2 years, but when we went, there were no ATMs in Giverny. You had to come with the cash you needed or stop in Vernon (or elsewhere) to get some.
The link I provided is one from the town of Giverny, so there is much more to learn about what's in the area by exploring it, including the links at the bottom of the page.
Thank you, those are terrific suggestions. I appreciate the information, too, about the ATMs.
