My family will be driving from Avignon to Nice to catch a 12:20 Easyjet flight to Venice on June 30th. Since it's a Saturday morning I'm wondering how traffic will be on the A8. Google maps shows about 3 hours so I'm thinking of leaving around 6:30 am which should be plenty of time to drop off the car, get bags checked and through security without feeling stressed and rushed. Has anyone made this drive or are there any gotcha's to look out for in the Nice airport? Thanks!
Should be a straightforward drive.
Easyjet flys from Terminal 2 in Nice and following signs to Terminal 2 will also take you to the rental car drop - off.
Marseille airport has a couple of non-stops to Venice at low prices, according to www.skyscanner.com
One is operated by easyJet, the other by a line I don't know. It's an easy train ride, if the trains are running -- the regional service goes from the old Avignon Centre station to the Vitrolles Aeroport Marseille stop, which is a five-minute shuttle bus from the airport itself. This is known as a TER service, slow and probably no reservation, but it leaves from the old station almost downtown in Avignon. The OuiSNCF website shows it as a one-stop service but that five-minute shuttle is the second ride, included in the ticket.
The high-speed TGV stops at a newer station on the edge of Avignon, and the airport stop is on the edge of Aix-en-Provence with a 20-minute bus shuttle to the airport.

The train to Nice may be a TGV but it won't go at high speed because that stretch of track can't handle those advanced speeds.
