Hi, we are 6 adults arriving after 5 pm from travel and staying at the Hotel de Cambis . Would anyone have experience with the area of the hotel and have a suggestion for a restaurant, close? Thank you for your time.
I had a nice lunch at La Fourchette a couple of years ago. It is about a 10 minute walk from your hotel.

Virtually all of the core of Avignon is easily walkable and would consider "near your hotel". The windy street Rue Des Trois Faucons that runs somewhat parallel to Rue de la République (the main drag where you are staying) has a whole series of restaurants to wander and check out. Also note that many places won't open until 6:30 or 7:00 for dinner so you may be early even if you get out of your hotel by 6:00.
If you think you are just going to want "something to eat" and not fuss with it check out Pl. des Corps Saints just about 6 minutes from your hotel. It is the southern extension of Rue Des Trois Faucons. It is a plaza with a whole series of easy food options and even some shared table areas so everyone can get whatever they feel like and meet back up to eat. It is pretty informal and easy going way to just get some food. (Yes, Pl. des Corps Saints does mean bodies of the saints because 2 saints are/were supposed to be buried under the plaza... so you have something discuss over dinner.)
That being said the only restaurant we visited twice in Avignon was Restaurant Le 26 on Rue Des Trois Faucons and about 3 minutes walk from your hotel. Charming place in an extended old stone house and good service. The roasted onion cheese starter was amazing, but it may not be on the fixed price choice menu.
Avignon has a ton of places to eat and drink. The only area I would say to avoid is the very top end of where it runs into and the heads up to Pope's Palace. There a many places with tables outside that face each other as you walk through them. I was warned off this area by the hotel owner the first time I stayed in Avignon "That's for the tourists, no one local eats there." and as soon as I walked through it I got that vibe. Unless a specific place is recommended by a local walk 5 minutes and find someplace better.
Enjoy Avignon,
