Avignon Rental Car - pick-up at TGV or downtown (cheaper)

We are arriving by train from Paris to Avignon and picking up a rental car for a few days. After I made my reservation, I see that there is an extra 40 Euro charge for pick-up at the Avignon TGV station compared to pick-up at the downtown location. The downtown location does not appear to be far away, so it might be worth the extra taxi ride. Anyone have experience with this and want to give advice? We would be arriving on a Wednesday at 2 p.m. and returning the car at 8:00 a.m. on a Friday morning to get a train to Barcelona.

I think I'd pay for the convenience of strolling directly between train and car rental and to have some familiarity with the car rental layout when you return to drop the car. Are you still planning to sleep closer to Arles, not in Avignon? The train that departs Avignon at 8:40 also leaves Nimes at 9:05, if you like the looks of that car drop-off. I have not used any of those three car rental locations.

Thanks. Yes, we are sleeping in Arles. My plan is to arrive in Avignon, pick-up rental car and drive straight out to Pont du Gard before we go to Arles for hotel check-in. It's about 45 minutes drive to Pont du Gard from Avignon, and in the summer that should give us plenty of time to enjoy the day before we have to head back to Arles for the night. We have a full day in Arles the next day and then leave for Barcelona on Friday morning. It's a tight schedule, but I really want to visit Provence, even if only for two nights.

I would pick up at the easiest location... by the time you pay a taxi twice, what is your actual savings?

Also, keep checking the rates for your car. Just because they are one price today does not mean they will be the same tomorrow. I always use priceline for my rental cars. I pick the cheapest one and put in my reservation. You do not prepay nor do they have your cc, then I check back periodically and if I find a cheaper rate I make a new res. and cancel the first one. It is amazing how often those rates change. I almost never stay with my first reservation, but when I have it has been because the rates went up substantially, and I was guaranteed my price.
I have used this rental car location and if I remember correctly it was an easy trip right out of town.

The two Avignon train stations are connected by a five-minute train shuttle which has replaced the old bus service. I imagine a taxi would cost rather less than 40 euros.
