Avignon Region this Fall

Hi Group,
I will be in the Avignon vicinity this Fall for a few days and I am looking for recommendations for a town, hamlet, village, to call home base - We are planning to visit some regional sites by train so if a location has easy access to public transportation the better. Just curious if Avignon makes more sense or if there are equally interesting places to call home base in the area. We enjoy getting around on foot - and will be spending time during the day on foot and hopefully a decent night life (restaurants) in the evening.

I enjoy Avignon; others have written it off as ho-hum. It has a good market, assorted restaurants, a lively theatre festival, and always those views across the river from what is left of the bridge. For your question, the tourism office is very helpful about both the town and region. And of course handy train connections.

Posted a few times in response to questions about my March 2024 visit to Provence. One week in Aix and one in Arles with 2 in Avignon. The 2 weeks in Avignon was due to the bus and train hub Avignon provided to the towns around it. All the cities were delightful so I think it just depends where you want to go in the area.

Sounds like no car in your plans, so I would stay in a well connected city. I had a car last week (based in Aix), and drove around quite alot. I really enjoyed Arles, and if/when I come back, I would consider basing there.
