Is there a bus that runs from Avignon to Gordes?
I was told that the Abbey of Sénanque is about a mile from Gordes? Is that true, is it possible to walk from Gordes to the Abbey?

According to rome2rio.com it's 2.3 miles but, if that's too far to walk, you could take a taxi or maybe Uber (if it exists there) or maybe rent a bike.

It will be a long walk from Gordes to the Abbey . Have you ever consider taking a mini van tour from Avignon to Gordes ?

Here’s a great description with photos and dog of the hiking trail Senanque to Gordes
I’ve driven the road a number of times between the two, the road is fairly narrow. In summer it’s very busy. Longer than a mile, for sure! The hiking trail will be better if you have good shoes.
