Auto Europe and No Deductible with Extended Coverage

I prefer to rent from Hertz. I have a gold membership from my employer. But I got the best deal from Auto Europe. I tried Expedia, booking.com and Hertz.com.

I decided to get No Deductible with Extended Coverage as my US insurance doesn't cover rental cars in Europe. I have a Costco card and it says it covers CDW but I don't want to deal with it when I am travelling. (for the record, I've the best driving record. :-))

When we visited Italy few years ago, I rented a car with full coverage from Hertz and it was too expensive. This time, I am shopping around for our France trip.

Question is, since I have No Deductible with Extended Coverage, if some thing happens, I just walk away without any hassles or any payments?

Also, who is covering "No Deductible with Extended Coverage"? Auto Europe or Hertz?

Thank you

Our experience - we usually plan to have our credit card cover our insurance needs. We also have good driving records and are becoming more accomplished at driving in Europe with foreign signs, procedures, etc. But, if anything happens, you'll still have to work out all the details with your credit card company...we haven't had to do that, so maybe it's simple or maybe not.

We’ve been renting through AutoEurope for the last twenty years. Until recently we relied on our American Express extended plans but switched to full coverage a couple of years ago for peace of mind and because it’s not too expensive. We’ve read too many stories. If you stay with CC coverage, just be sure to take photos of the car before and after.

Yes, you just walk away. Had a mishap in Italy and it was such a relief to hand over the keys with no paperwork to fill out or paying upfront and waiting for reimbursement.

That's exactly what happened last year when I rented Hertz through Auto Europe and took the full coverage (something I had never done before). I backed into a stone wall and scraped the rear of the car. When I returned the car, I was asked if I caused that, I said yes, that that was that.

I don't know, but it wasn't me.

Auto Europe is selling insurance that's provided by the source, like Hertz, but they've negotiated generally lower package rates. See also https://www.autoeurope.com/car-rental-coverage-options/. I think their rental vouchers are quite clear about what is and isn't covered. Particular items like tires or other could still be excluded from coverage, so do read to be sure. You normally can review this document before paying for the booking, or bookings can also be cancelled up to 48 hours ahead of the scheduled pick-up.
