What restaurants does anyone recommend that serves authentic (and preferably reasonable) dinner cuisine in Paris?
Authentic French foods you may find in Paris include Gougeres, Pot Au Feu, Cassoulet, Fois Gras and more.
In Paris order French Onion Soup.
A small restaurant in the 7th you may like is Bon Accueil.
Hello from Wisconsin,
If a person asked me for 'American' food I would send them to a bar for a burger and fires. And seeing I am from Wisconsin, a pitcher of beer. That is how we eat real local food.
Keeping that in mind, if you want a real meal in Paris I have the place. It is in the Marias. Rue de St Croix de la Bretonnerie Ts into Rue de Vieille-du-Temple. In front of you is a bakery (Boulangerie Patisserie). Immediately to the left if a small place with a restaurant in the back. You will get what the locals eat. It is good, not great. Price is very reasonable. I don't recall the staff speaking English. So look at what others are eating and do your best at being polite as your point and nod, signaling, I want that.

Interesting. I was in Paris in May and ordered French onion soup. The menu said it was "vegetarian," which I guess should have been a clue. It was the worst onion soup I've ever had - no flavor at all. You can't win.
If you want French onion soup, then the menu will likely just call it onion soup, or perhaps onion soup gratinée.
There are all kinds of small restaurants, bistros and cafés where you can get a reasonably priced, authentic meal in the Marais or Latin Quarter. Most will have their menu posted outside. I don't have my journals handy, but I remember one lovely dinner we had at Le Volcan on Rue Mouffetard.
