A big hello to everyone, from Australia
We are travelling to France in October, specifically from Paris down to Burgundy, then onto the Dordogne and finally Bordeaux/Saint Emillion.
I am trying to find some accommodation where we can get a real, authentic French vineyard experience.
We are looking at stay where we can get involved in the vineyard activities, get our hands dirty and help out in the vineyard, as well as the other end of the spectrum, a luxury type stay (meals include, relaxation on the estate recommended).
Does anyone have any advice? Big or small
Thanks greatly in advance
Anne
If you want to get your hands dirty, October is vendange, grape harvest, time in the areas you want to go. They might be a bit busy to schmooze a lot, but they probably wouldn't turn down an extra set of hands. If I remember from my student days when I did this in France, you need a strong back. The old local ladies were twice as fast as I was. You should be able to find a vineyard that has rooms through Gites de France, but you want a chambre d'hote (B and B), not a separate cottage (gite).
For luxury accommodations Relais Chateaux is tops, or try Hotels de Charmes for smaller, cute places.
