My husband and I leave on our first trip to Paris in three weeks. I recently put the Rick Steve's Audio Europe App on my iPhone. I'm not very savvy with tech issues so I'm confused already. While on our trip do I just download the Paris portions of the app that we're wanting to use? I was thinking I would download all of the Paris applicable portions before we get there, but it looks like allot of information. Also, if I download these while in Paris will I have to be somewhere with wifi? Help, please and thank you.
Yes you need data either wifi or cellular to be able to download.
Go into the app.
- Click on find tours and interviews.
- Select France.
- Select what you want then hit the download button. Repeat for other ones you wish to download.
- Go to my playlist to listen.
- To delete an item go to my playlist. Press edit in the upper right corner and hit the minus sign that appears to the left of the individual talks, tours etc.
Download your playlist before you go where you have wi-fi or adequate data. Then you don't need wi-fi to listen or view since you can view off line. I'm not at all tech savvy but it was easy. Hint: I put my phone in airplane mode at home to test if the app will work off line.
Another easy app to use is maps.me. Download the maps you want at home. Then save the spots of interest. It's pretty intuitive. Let me know if you need help.
Yes, there are a lot of topics, which is why it's better to do some selection and downloading in advance. I don't believe that each file uses much memory space. You may want to be selective about whether you're more interested in an audio description of a museum or walking tour route that you'll follow pretty closely during the trip, versus a chatty radio interview about food in France, or similar topics.
