ATT Passport

I'm wondering what kind of texting is free on the ATT Passport $60/30 days plan. Can i text on my iphone to the US? Can I text to a friend's iphone in France (that has a French phone number)? How about What's App?

I used ATT passport on my last trip to Europe. Texting (including sending photos) was included in the plan. The fine print says SMS and MMS messaging are covered, and not other types of messaging (like WhatsApp, see below). I used texting under this plan in Germany, Norway, Denmark, and Sweden and had zero problems or extra charges (though I was only texting the US).

WhatsApp needs either wifi connection or a cellular connection - the latter would be counted toward the data limit on the passport plan. If you used wifi, it would be free, as would iMessage, I believe.

If you decide to use the plan, reset your data counter and set an alert to go off before you hit the limit (1 gb I believe). Note that you get charged to check voice mail from overseas - as I get quite a few spam calls, I ignored calls (and voice mails) from numbers not in my contacts and didn't pick up voice mail until I returned to the US.
