Hi,
I know there has been much discussion about chip and pin cards. Is it necessary to have one when traveling to France for regular ATM use? Thanks or your help.

No. Regular magnetic stripe debit cards work just fine in French ATMs.

Your card will work in an ATM, but most likely not at a toll booth or gas station should you rent a car. Citibank (AAdvantage) is now offering Chip & PIN credit cards at no additional cost. When using an ATM, avoid using random machines on the street. These are more vulnerable to tampering. Instead, use an ATM located within a bank branch.
