Asking for Recomendations for Pre-flight Night Near CDG

Last year, after dinner in Paris, I took the RER B to the airport. I stayed at the Novotel Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport. It's a 2 minute indoor walk from the RER stop and a 2 minute walk to the CDGval shuttle to the terminals in the morning. While they have a restaurant, I only had breakfast there. My room was large, quiet and comfortable.

There are several other hotels in the same area.

What station are you arriving in Paris? Maybe store your bags, have a nice dinner and stroll in the city and then head to your overnight at the airport hotel.

Since we would have already been in Paris at the beginning of our trip, I think we will just travel to the train station at the airport and stay at a hotel very close, one that has a restaurant. Perhaps the Sheraton, INNSiDE by Melia, the Hilton or Novotel. That might be the best, most relaxing option after a long trip.

Use an hotel inside the airport, not in Roissy en France or near the airport.

I would not recommend staying in Roissy-en-France. Shuttle services to CDG can be costly and irregular in their operations. I would only consider one of these options:

• Staying at CDG at one of the hotels along the CDGVAL, free train line which connections all terminals. The disadvantage is that there are no restaurants at the airport or at any of the airport hotels I can recommend. You pay a lot of money for meals which are very average, at best.
• Staying in Paris somewhere along the RER B line such as at Les Halls, St Michel, or Luxembourg. Hotels will likely be cheaper, and restaurants much better. Staying close to an RER B station, you can return to CDG in 20 - 30 minutes, probably faster than what shuttles from Roissy-en-France will take.

Citizen M hotel. Easy walk across a plaza to the terminal.

We've tried many restaurants at the airport hotels. The most decent so far has been the InnSide by Melia, a Spanish chain. It's next door to the Holiday Inn Express, which is a 3-star hotel with breakfast included.

But, if given the choice, I prefer staying in Paris and taking a taxi in the morning so it's door-to-door service and better meal. That way, I don't have to lug my suitcase from the hotel to check-in on the shuttle. There are plenty of hotels at the Gare de Lyon where I've stayed: among them the Holiday Inn, Marriott, Novotel, Ibis, and others. The taxi picks you up at the front door and drops you at the terminal door of your check-in. Some restaurants for a meal right across from the train station on Boulevard Diderot where you'll arrive from Lyon: Brasserie L'Europeen, Restaurant Aux Cadrans.

We usually stay at the Hilton the night before a morning flight. Clean, comfortable hotel with a decent restaurant.

We have Hilton points so we’ve stayed there a few times. The stay this past June was the best and we thought the restaurant was better than on previous visits. There was a bar menu as well as a regular restaurant option. The place was packed for a youth convention so the breakfast buffet was kind of a zoo but loads of options and frequent refreshing. It’s a short walk to the CDGVAL.

We're staying at the Holiday Inn Express at the airport - our flight to California is at 10 a.m. We've stayed at this hotel before and it is easy to get to the Terminal on foot & tram. Helps that our carryon luggage is super light so we're not schlepping very much. Last time, we'd already had a nice dinner in Paris before taking the RER out to the airport. The night before our flight at CDG, we are staying the HYATT Place.

Any thoughts or comments thanks

PS is there any good restaurants by the Hyatt Place hotel?

A couple of our friends who were flight attendants or pilots told us that they often visited Chantilly the day before their return flights. Chantilly is 16 miles from CDG. We have not done this ourselves, but you might investigate Chantilly as a possibility. Google maps indicates a direct bus between CDG and Chantilly.

Great suggestions, everyone! If only we could travel light! I will investigate Chantilly--that sounds like an option for a nice dinner.
