We will be arriving in Lyon Part Dieu from CDG on an AVG. I believe I read that you can stay on the train to arrive at Perrache station. Is this common and acceptable? We must ask? It would be a much easier transfer to our hotel after our flight.
It depends on the train but most will necessitate a transfer at Part Dieu. My advice, after doing that, is to take a taxi to your hotel from Part Dieu.
It's mostly an issue of where your hotel is located . When I arrived at Part Dieu ,I hopped on the tram just in front of the station for two or three stops , and easily walked to my hotel , a block away .
Our situation may have been unique as we were on a train from Tours. And as I remember we could have selected Parrache, for the same price, but our tickets were for Part-Dieu.
This web site says some trains stop at both stations. But technically your ticket is for Part-Dieu, and not valid for Parrache, unless Parrache is the listed destination. We got the feeling that proceeding to Parrache, for free, was entirely up to the Conductor to allow after we asked. He just shrugged his shoulders, and said, "No Problem."
Your train might not even stop at Parrache.
Trains from CDG typically go beyond Lyon, and do not pass thru Perrache. Only trains that terminate in Lyon use Perrache. In which case yes, you can stay.
What Balso said. Otherwise, exit the station on the side labeled Béraudier - Centre Ville (or something like that, it's the opposite side from Villette), and find the T1 tram which will take you to Perrache. Tickets are purchased from a machine at the tram stop.
