I posted awhile back before I had our plans more finalized and now I’m struggling to sort the trains between countries. We are heading to Colmar for 3 nights from Heidelberg on a Monday in October so I want to get this booked. I’ve spent alot of time trying to figure out the best way and am now at Flixbus direct OR train to Strasbourg. It didn’t seem to be working for me to select Heidelberg to Colmar with time offerings after the morning. Once I switched the selection to Heidelberg to Strasbourg it seemed to work. Would it make sense to train to Strasbourg, store our luggage for a couple of hours to save us travelling back there another day, then grab (no need to prebook) a regional train on to Colmar perhaps after a couple of hours in Strasbourg? I was looking via Rome2Rio that took me to Omni. Thanks for any help provided! I’m so nervous about sorting this.

There are a couple different ways to get to either Strasbourg or Colmar from Heidelberg. If you have the German D Pass you can use that part of the way and save some money. If not you have to buy the whole ticket. Look at booking to Colmar from Mannheim or Karlsruhe; those stations have options. Then back plan to get to either of those.
There's also the option of taking the regional train from Heidelberg to Wissembourg and then booking from there to either Strasbourg or Colmar.
Or taking DB to Frieburg and then from there going over the border.
