Arrive at CDG or Orly from Italy

Trying to figure out what would be best. We are flying from Naples Italy on Oct 15, 2021 and Air France arrives at 8:20am at CDG and Easy Jet Arrives at Orly at 9:40am. We need to catch the train to Bayeux once we arrive. I plan on just taking a taxi to the train station. Which airport is better to do that?? And how much time do we need from when we land at the airport to catch the train? Should I reserve train tickets ahead of time for a 11am departure. Is that to early? Should I shoot for a 1pm instead? On arrival to Bayeux we plan on checking in and walking around town and going to the tapestry. And than we have our Overlord 2 day tour the next day, before heading back to Paris for 5 days. Thanks for the input!

For what it's worth, Rome2rio shows a 21-minute taxi ride from Orly to Gare St-Lazare, and a 29-minute ride from CDG, pretty much a wash given the variability of traffic. I haven't used Orly but it's smaller and might be easier to navigate. It might come down to a choice between airlines and how early you want to get up that morning.

You don't need an advance ticket for the train to Bayeux, and given the uncertainties of arrival and traffic you're better off just taking the next train when you get to Gare St-Lazare. This website has all you could want to know about rail travel in Europe, click through to what's most relevant to you.

Besides the tapestry, Bayeux has a wonderful cathedral (where the tapestry was displayed back in the day). They're close together and not to be missed.

Bayeux has the best WWII museum, in my opinion, that I highly recommend.

Awesome thanks Dick, I wasn’t sure on if I needed to reserve our tickets in advanced with Covid and if they were limiting capacity on the trains. As I wouldn’t want the train being booked up, and not getting on. It would be better and less stressful to just get a ticket at the train station and not on a time schedule and miss the train. My thought is CDG from Air France and getting in early. As we don’t mind waking up for an early flight. Can sleep on the flight and train ride 😁. Are taxies easy to come by at CDG or is there a long line to get in one? Or would Uber be better to get to Gare St Lazare. And we will definitely add the Cathedral to when we visit the tapestry. Thanks

If you don't mind getting up early, take the Air France flight as it will give you more time in Bayeux!

The taxi is cheaper from Orly, and Orly is closer to Paris. Also a smaller airport, so less of a hassle.

Taxis from Paris airports are fixed-rate into the city.

For you to get to Gare St Lazare from CDG: 53€ for up to four people and luggage.

For you to get to Gare St Lazare from Orly: 37€ for up to four people and luggage.

Also there is no way you will get from either airport to Gare St Lazare in 21 or 29 minutes, that's simply not realistic.

You are trying to cross town from Orly during the end of rush hour, or you are driving into Paris on the autoroute from CDG at rush hour. No matter, you'll need to just relax and accept whatever time it takes. Taxi: just get into the official taxi line. It moves quickly. Ignore all the illegal taxi solicitors inside the airport. Uber doesn't work at the airport.

Kim, is there a website that shows fixed taxi prices from airports? I am doing something similar but catching a train to Amboise.

Fixed taxi fares from ORY to Paris: 32€ to 37€ for the Left/Right Bank respectively. There is a special taxi queue for those going to Paris and for those going elsewhere.

CDG to Paris: 53€/58€ for the Left/Right Bank respectively.
