Armagnac distilleries

Hi, has anyone visited the Armagnac distilleries near Condom in south-west France? I found three: Chateau le Courrejot, Chateau Cugnac, and Chateau de Cassaigne. Any experience or recommendations about these places, or any others in that area? Are there any Armagnac distilleries further north of that area, closer to Bergerac?

Roger,

this map by the Armagnac tourist board might help you. This is their page.

I also recommend this NYT article about Gascony. It has been posted before and is worth the read if you are going to that area.
And do visit the cathedral in Condom.

Andrew.reis: (like slums?) We will probably just visit 2 distilleries. But in case any of these turn out be closed, I wanted to have some extra options.

I've been to Chateau de Cassaigne. Worth seeing, and outstanding Armagnac.

Hi Roger,
We're heading to the Armagnac region in October. This will be our second trip. We stayed at a hotel in Condom the first time and visited 4 distilleries: Domain de Pujo, Saint Martin, Guilhon d'Aze, and Chateau de Laubade. This time we're going to rent a gite closer to Eauze. Every distillery was dramatically different and wonderful in their own way, from a 5th generation producer brother and sister at Saint Martin (we purchased a fabulous 1969) to the very refined and beautiful Laubade near Sorbets (we invested in a bottle of Intemporel No. 5 and the Extra Single Estate). We feel that we purchased some bottles that just aren't available in the US, although Sherry-Lehmann in NYC carries Armagnac produced by Laubade, I believe. It may be private label. The TI in Condom had a wonderful guide booklet and map (same as the link provided above) showing dozens of producers. Hopefully we'll visit our old favorites and find some new ones. If you've already taken your trip will you share the highlights??

That isn't difficult, as the US selection of Armagnac is pretty poor. I prefer Armagnac to Cognac, but it's not easy to get one from a small producer here.

I'm also planning a trip to some distilleries in the Armagnac region.
What is the best way to get there from Paris?

I'd suggest taking a train to Bordeaux and renting a car there.
