Hi Everyone. I need some advice on the best way to view/visit the Pont Du Gard from Arles. We will be based in Arles for a week, so I would also love suggestions on the least busy day to visit the sight. We will not have a car, but could possibly rent one for the journey to Pont Du Gard. I would prefer to take public transit, simply for my peace of mind. Let me know about your experiences!

We're planning on taking the train to Nimes, and then a bus to Pont du Gard
Last summer we stayed in Nimes and took a very easy public bus directly to Pont Du Gard in the morning. The bus dropped us off on the corner and it was a very short walk up the street to the entrance. The TI in Nimes gave us the bus information.
I can't help with specific bus directions, but wanted to point out that combining the town of Uzes with Pont du Gard worked well for us and made for a good full day. Arriving at PdG as early as possible-hopefully before big crowds-then heading to Uzes, and I would assume there is a bus that would cover this. In summer you could get to PdG late afternoon and probably find very few people there, though the visitor center, etc may be closed-you can still walk in; there is a pay parking lot IIRC and you buy a ticket at a machine inside for the entry fee. Just be very clear on where to catch your bus back! If you choose to drive, you may find a one day rental expensive, but in any case the driving is relatively easy. Overnight parking in Arles may be tough, if overnighting with car see if your lodging has a place for you to park. Also, I wonder if there is a tour that leaves from Arles to PdG, that may be the simplest, if available.
As recommended in the answer to your other question, you'll find a lot of information in Rick's Provence guidebook . . . covers exactly these areas . . .
Based on your other post you might want to look at an organized tour such as this one which will get you to both the Pont du Gard and the lavender fields:
Laura,
We will also be traveling to Provence, (will be based in Avignon for part of our trip) & may visit the Pont du Gard as well.
Since you will be based in Arles, the best option would be to take a TER train from Arles to Avignon Centre station.
- Check here for train schedules:http://www.sncf.com/en/passengers
Then you will take a bus (line A15) from Avignon's bus station (next to Centre's train station) to pont du Gard.
Here is the bus schedule:https://www.edgard-transport.fr/ftp/FR_lignes/A15_021115%20OK.pdf
You will want to get off at the traffic roundabout : "Rond Point Pont du Gard" bus stop -- which is about a 10 minute walk to the Museum & 5 minute walk from there to the Pont du Gard.
You may want to confirm bus schedules with the TI (in Arles), since these may change.
Make sure you find out where to take the bus to return to Avignon, as this may be confusing.
Enjoy your trip!
Renting a car opens up a lot more options in Provence. Please consider listening to this podcast on driving in France. I found it to be extremely accurate.

Thank you all for your replies. This is very helpful for me to know. This is our first Europe trip that isn't a planned tour, so we are looking forward to some unexpected adventure. Has anyone taken the kayak tour of the Pont de Gard?
I haven't taken the kayak tour, but I did see people canoeing and kayaking under the Pont du Gard and it looked like fun! I took Rick's advice and swam under the Point du Gard and it was a memorable experience.
