Hi! We will be in Arles for a week, and I do not want to miss the lavender fields, which should be in full bloom when we are there this summer. Any suggestions for places to go/fields to see/how to get there? We will not have a car, and would prefer to take public transit. Best -
I suggest investing $20 in a Provence guidebook to help you get the most out of your visit.
As FastEddie notes, Rick's Provence & French Riviera book would be useful for you. It has lots of details that the standard France book does not have, and good specifics on your two posted questions. It may have public transit info too, I'll have to look.
In addition to everything else, it does have:
Arles and Nearby
Les Baux and nearby
St-Rémy-de-Provence
The Camargue
Avignon and Nearby
Nîmes
Pont du Gard Roman aqueduct
Uzès
Doing it on your own by public transport may be difficult, but there are companies that do day trips from Arles that go to the lavender fields, particularly to the Gordes area. You can google them or check on TA. Otherwise my best advice would be to just rent a car for the day.
