Arles - Parking

What is the parking like in Arles?

We'll be renting a place via VRBO ... places in the old town section I get the reply, from the owners, "public parking" is close by. Concerns are we go out on a day trip and return to not have a parking spot? Or having to walk a LONG distance to the rental.

We do have the option of staying just a bit farther out from the old town area and have a dedicated parking spot right by the rental. However, would rather stay close to center of town.

We'll be staying in Arles for 9 nights in late May/early June. So am thinking that since it is not peak season, parking should not be much of an issue, but interested in hearing other first hand experience from those that have been.

Thanks in advance!

Lots of free parking outside the town wall on the boulevard des Lices. Also some free lots.
To see where they are, google Arles maps then hit directions then le poste arles Should bring it right up

Parking could be a problem close to the center of town, especially in the evening when you're returning.
I would also have a concern about security re overnight parking in public lots, and I'm not only talking about the contents of the car, those you can remove, but of the car itself. I was told that car theft is a problem in the area. Make sure you are fully insured for loss of the entire car.
When last sleeping in Arles, we stayed in a hotel that provided secure overnight parking. And the owner personally delivered the car to the hotel front door, which was a help--you'll understand once you have seen the very narrow streets of the town center.
Actually you could see this if you use the Satellite View of Google Map and zoom in on the streets in the town center (near the arena, which is easy to spot on Google Map or Google Earth).

We stayed in Place Voltaire and parked in the free lot just outside the walls near Rue Jules Ferry. We were in Arles 5 nights and had no problem parking there, except for market day when we were able to find parking in a lot near our hotel. There were always spots available. We were afraid of theft but our hotel owner told us there should be no problem and he was right. Of course, anything can happen at any time and one day we may be the unlucky ones.
