Argeles Plage or Saint Cyprien?

Both are purpose-built seaside resorts, but St Cyprien is newer. I never stayed in either (only in Collioure); the beach is nicer in Argelès and the resort has more charm. St Cyprien feels very 70s-80s.

I know both of these places, Argelès-Plage and Saint-Cyprien, as I go there from time to time (without staying overnight). They are major seaside holiday hotspots on this part of the Mediterranean coast, with a high concentration of campsites. So, if that’s the kind of holiday you’re looking for, it could work well, as long as you don't go past the end of September, when most of the facilities close and the places turn into something of a ghost town.

Honestly, I don't see much of a difference between Saint-Cyprien and Argelès. It’s really up to you, depending on the accommodation you’ve found and what you want to do there.

The harbor in Saint-Cyprien is mainly a marina with yacht clubs and jet ski rentals. There might be some fishermen, but I don't remember seeing any.

On the other hand, Port-Vendres is a real, authentic fishing port (with a small marina section), and several fishermen sell their catch directly on the docks year-round but especially during the summer season. In winter, it depends heavily on the weather, so what changes with the seasons is the type of fish available. I went there last December and we bought quite a lot of fish, though I can't remember which kinds exactly.

You need to go early in the morning, from 8:30 AM onwards. Don't go on a Sunday.
