Apartment/weather advice needed-please

Hi again,
I am going to be in Paris from 19 July to 26 July and I have a little Air BnB apartment near the canal. I checked it today and noticed that when I booked it, it said there was air conditioning and now it does not. I have never used AirBnB before and there is no way for me to get a place with air con in short notice that is anywhere in my price range, even if I could get a refund. So, tell me, is it awful? I know that I am a pesky American and all that but I'm in that hot flash time of my life (yay) and am really bummed. I know most people in Paris do not have A/C but I imagine they're used to it. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Maybe you can pick up a cheap fan somewhere...keeping curtains closed thru the day will help...

I was in Paris in June and had no AC. We opened a lot of the french windows for a cross breeze, and the apartment we had a fan. We were also on the 5th floor so it was hotter than a ground floor, but we made do.

If you can't get a hold of the Air BnB, then make do with what you have. ASK if they have a portable fan at least. We stayed out most of the afternoon, and didn't come back until the evenings, when it was cooler.

Take advantage of the museums and other places which does have AC.

When you have lemons, make lemonade.

Right now it is very very hot in Paris, but perhpas by time you go it will cool down. Let's hope so. A fan is not alot of help when its 35 or more degrees( keep in mind though, that is not the norm!)
As for the Airbnb I would be very upset if I booked a place with ac and then all of a sudden it changed to no ac!

A couple of thoughts-have you tried booking a hotel? You might be better off doing that and skipping the apartment idea, depending on how much hot weather would bother you, budget permitting. There are also "apart-hotels" in Paris which may be a good option for you.

I would encourage you to inquire with AirBnB about the history of the amenities in the apartment listing, I would think they could confirm it. Are you sure it said AC before? If so, that is obviously a bait-and-switch, and, depending on how strict the cancellation policy is, may give you some leverage, though it's not comfortable to have a disagreement with the owner before you even show up.

Good luck!

If you find the apartment doesn't have air conditioning, then you need to find out if it faces the street or courtyard, particularly the bedroom. If it's the street, you'll have noise all night with the windows open. If it's the courtyard, you'll be able to sleep better. That would be the deal breaker for me. As you said, most people don't have air conditioning, but they do close the shutters and leave the window open when it's hot. Hope this has been a false alarm for you and that it's beautifully air conditioned.

Thanks all. I know it was listed with A/C because I only searched for listings with 3 things and that was one of them. Another person (on the reviews) also said that while the apartment was lovely, there was no A/C like was advertised, so I know I am not crazy. I decided to email the owner and ask nicely what the deal is. Hopefully she'll not take offense. I booked this so long ago to make sure it had met all my requirements. I don't want to be stuck and the price was good. Maybe too good.

If you can't change, and are stuck without, then my advice (perhaps too late) is to not stress or become obsessed with the issue. I know that may be hard with potential discomfort, but once it get's into your head it will seriously affect your total enjoyment. Buy a small fan if needed, but hopefully the weather will be kind.
