Curious if anyone has used Tours as a base for the LV with a car. I think we would enjoy the nightlife and atmosphere of the old city center. Architecture in old part of city definitely appeals. I've read conflicting information on driving (easy or not easy)... curious of what you think?

Don't stay there stay in Blois (see the Chateau Blois) instead less college kids and tourists there.

I prefer Tours over Blois. It's a gorgeous city. Do a seach here and you;ll see many of the pros and cons of staying in Loire Valley Cities

Personally I found driving in Tours unpleasant, but we didn't explore the old city center -- it may be very nice, I dunno. It was a pain driving through Tours to get to other Loire Valley chateau destinations.
We stayed in Azay-le-Rideau, which is a small village but has several high-end restaurants. I can recommend Hotel de Biencourt there. They serve an excellent buffet breakfast and the innkeepers are absolutely wonderful people.
