Anyone ever been to Albertville?

Hello,

We will be staying just south of Annecy in a town called Faverges. We see there are plenty of nice things to see that seem to be 1.5-2 hrs away (including Chamonix) but we think we may soon tire of so much driving. Albertville is only 20 minutes away, and we were wondering if it is enjoyable there too? Seeing as though it was the sight of the Olympics back in 1992 we thought it might have some nice scenery and summer chair lifts but we weren't sure. We have three kids, aged 12, 10 and 6 and will be traveling in the heat of the summer. We very much enjoy pretty scenery and lake swimming.

Many thanks.

I have a friend who once lived in Albertville which was the site of the 1992 winter olympics. I visited him there a number of times but both of us were glad when he moved. The area has a lot to offer, particularly for camping, hiking, all kinds of outdoor sports. However, the town itself I found very disappointing; run-down, little commerce, and few restaurants/cafés.

Maybe Albertville is better now; maybe not.

I would concur on Albertville - the town is not much to write home about
The drive to Chamonix is spectacular and you can take cable-car to Aiguille du Midi all year round - the kids would love that
