Taking the train from Paris to Bordeaux - arriving at 8:30 pm. Staying one night, then renting a car & heading to Dordogne. Searching for hotels near the train station Saint-Jean Station. Any recommendations? I noticed an IBIS close by. Any experience staying near the train station?
We've stayed at the Ibis Bordeaux Centre Gare Saint Jean. We were only here for one night but appreciated the location that made it very easy to pick up our rental car to begin our travels in southern France. Bordeaux has a great public transportation system so it was also easy to get into the city center to explore and to have a nice dinner. The room was clean and comfortable. We were especially impressed with the helpfulness of the staff members--very professional and friendly.
We stayed at the Mercure Gare Saint-Jean for three nights. Perfectly comfortable, but nothing special. Probably more expensive than the Ibis, and may not be worth the extra cost for your short stay. Good choice to get the car at the train station, it was very easy to get out of town.
We just stayed at the Hotel des Voyageurs, on the other side of the river, and with the great tram system, it was a short trip to pick up our car at the train station. It's the third time we've stayed there, and wouldn't stay anywhere else.
