Bonjour,
My husband and I will be finishing a wine tour of Provence and Rhone regions in Lyon in October and plan to extend our stay in/near Lyon to explore that area. Would appreciate any suggestions.
Merci,
Patricia
My wife and I have stayed in Lyon several times, anywhere from 1 to 3 days at a time, and found plenty to do in Lyon itself, w/o a car. Rather than try to remember all the high points, I'll just attach a link to my blog, with "Lyon" put in the search box http://mainelywinenews.blogspot.com/search?q=lyon
If you instead want to stay in the environs of Lyon, you'll need a car. We've spent a fair amount of time in the nearby Bugey region, and some time in Beaujolais. If you search for "Bugey" in that link, you should come up with what I wrote about during our trip there last year.
Robert, What a wonderful blog and pictures of a most beautiful region. I will be going on November 8th so look forward to visiting the food markets! I was thinking a day trip to Dijon as well via a train.
Patricia,
Sounds like you can't go wrong with this lovely city.
Thanks so much Robert. I can't wait to explore the info on your blog.
Patricia
I think it is worth staying in the city. There's a lot to see and do, linked by a user-friendly transit system. And terrific food.
if that's too much city for you, I think there are some day trips, and Lyon could be a base for forays into the Beaujoulais region.
The city pass is a deal for at least some of those days. It includes admission at many museums and attractions, a transit pass, and a free walking tour and boat ride.
Have you cracked a guidebook yet? What appeals to you?
I really like Bob's blog too.
The city pass for Lyon is wonderful -- other city passes should aspire to be as valuable as it.
And once the museum part of the pass expires, you can add transit value to it at any train station.
Easy day trip to Vienne is a must if you like history. Something for every era from Rome to WWII and all the popery inbetween.
