Hello
August 4th my family will spend a week in Paris for the first time. My teenager daughter has tons of allergy (nuts and ezcema) So I rent an apartment so that I can cook for her. However her allergy flare up this week. She got heat rash all over. I am so worry that the apartment I rent has NO air condition.
Does anyone can tell me how much does it cost to buy a fan in monoprix or BHV this summer? or should I bring one myself.
Where do you live, and what voltage do you have at home? If you live in North America, the voltage is different from that in Europe, so a fan from home would not work. I would wait until you get to Paris, and see if there is a fan already in the apartment. If not, buy one.
You might contact the person or agency you're renting from and explain your situation. They should be able to help you. We're currently renting in Paris and our agency has been very responsive to our needs.
If you need to buy a fan, the Darty website shows a range of 15 to 50 euros and up. I agree that the rental agent or owner may have one to lend you.
You will have plenty of options if you wait until you're there.
Not sure this would help, but I carry a cooling bandana (got mine at REI for about $10) for wearing on hot days. Has gel crystals inside (dry on the plane, turns into a gel when activated by soaking in water) and you wear it around your neck, turning it so the cool side is against your skin. Not super-effective, but better than nothing, and not expensive.
I would call, explain your situation, and try to get an apartment with AC. It can be very hot in Paris in August and if you are on a higher floor it just magnifies the heat. Better not to risk being miserable after you have invested time and money into your vacation.
