Another questions for a 1st Paris traveler . . .

Is the following (from a 2019 post) still true for Navigo and the PMP?

And what are the entry requirements for the Louvre? Thank you!

"We always get both Navigo and the Paris Museum Pass on our annual visits. Both are great bargains and we use the PMP to enter the lesser known museums we wouldn't normally visit. Most if not all are nearly empty and have a snack bar and the all-important toilets. We've done Versailles and always go once to d'Orsay and the Louvre plus one of our many favorites, the Pantheon. Works for us and has for years."

Thanks, Margie. I'm not getting all the information I want from those sites.

Here's a another entry that has me quite confused. Do you understand what the person is saying? I understand about reserving a slot for the Louvre. But I don't understand what they mean about having a registration number on the pass. And I didn't know the pass had to be shipped! Really confusing.

"Also, you have probably read that the Louvre is now requiring compulsory timed entry tickets that you must purchase from their website. If you have a Paris Museum Pass, you can reserve a slot without paying, BUT you must have the registration number on the pass. So, if you wait until you get to Paris to buy the pass, you could possibly be out of luck reserving a timed ticket on such short notice. Buying the pass online adds quite a bit of shipping costs, so to me, it negates the cost-effectiveness."

The post you cited wouldn't apply to you because a Paris Museum Pass would be a waste of money in your case. You have mentioned only one museum and the Pass doesn't apply to the Eiffel Tower. In fact, very few people go to enough museums to get value out of the pass. For Louvre tickets, you go online at the Louvre website and buy your tickets. You choose a reserved entry day and time. Here it is: https://www.ticketlouvre.fr/louvre/b2c/index.cfm/home

The Navigo transportation pass is good for one week, one month or yearly. It wouldn't pay for you. Instead, you and your travel partner would each need to get a ticket card and have a few tickets put on each card. You can't share one card.

Have you had a chance to read Rick Steves' Paris Guidebook yet? I used to get my guidebooks at the library or a used bookstore, even online bookstores.

The Museum Pass is very rarely worth getting. Only if you would save a lot of money by doing an intense museum marathon over a few days is it worth getting. It offers zero advantages otherwise. Before COVID it might help with lines because museums had separate lines for those with tickets or passes. Now everybody has reserved tickets and time slots at the major museums and so those lines are no longer short. E.g. we could just walk into the Orsay most days with a ticket purchased at the newspaper kiosk out front; now the lines for ticket holders rival those for people buying tickets.

The major benefit of the museum pass was you could make several visits to a big museum like the Louvre rather than a long visit -- now you only get one visit and the Louvre has limited time slots (which are required) for those with the PMP.

The quote also refers to a 'Navigo'. The Navigo is not available to tourists -- what they probably meant was the Navigo Decouverte which is a tremendous bargain if it fits your dates but there is now also a Navigo Easy which is just a card on which to load metro/bus tickets and for many people this is a better choice, especially if their trip straddles a weekend and thus is not suitable for the ND which runs Mon-Sun.

the comment on needing the registration ## on the Louvre tix w the PMP is wrong, you can pre book the Louvre w/o the pass ##, just put in a bunch of 0s...
you will have to decide yourself if the PMP is actually worth it.

And if you are going to go to enough museums to want a pass, you can buy a virtual pass to store on your phone rather than having shipping costs.
