Another Navigo Thread

Hello all.
I am arriving to CDG on a Friday morning. I start an RS Paris city tour two days later on a Sunday. The RS tour is Sunday-Saturday. I am staying in Paris until the Friday after that. I haven't decided if I am going to get from CDG by RER/metro or taxi, but am leaning toward getting a taxi after reading your comments. My tour page states that we will get a Navigo Découverte card as part of the tour and to bring a "photocopy" of a passport or DL photo to the tour.

  1. Will a photocopy (on paper) work for the card? The website says no "photocopy". Does Rick mean a photo copy (on photo paper)? I have ordered a photo from Google prints for this but am still curious. If he means the latter, I think a fair amount of tour takers will misunderstand.
  2. Has anyone successfully used the Ile de France mobilites app? I have a Pixel 6 and my phone is not compatible for purchasing tickets. This is so so so frustrating! How could DB get this right and nobody else?
  3. So, my plan is to use Navigo Easy for Friday to Monday and then reload a weekly pass on the ND card for my extra week. I could use this to get to the airport on the day of my departure as well as day to day travel. I am planning to take the metro from the tour hotel in the 7th to the 16th to visit Musee' Marmottan Monet shortly after arrival. Will I be able to purchase the Navigo Easy card easily at any Metro stop? If not where? Should I get one at the airport prior to traveling to the city by taxi?

Thanks!

You can get the Easy at any Metro -- you buy it on the machine.

We have used photos printed on our computer for our Navigos -- I have done half a dozen for self and family this way. It needs to be about 25/30mm. so crop it for that and print it and cut it out. I assume that the tour will have purchased and loaded the kits, so you will just put it together yourself --t here won't be an official to judge your photo. THe plastic gummed flap goes over the photo and your printed name to seal it in and protect it. Then you just slide the two cards -- chips card and photo card into the plastic case and are good to go.

  1. You are correct, the RATP specifies that photocopies are not acceptable for Navigo Découverte use. The RATP requires a photo. There are photo booths at all train/RER stations and at most métro stations. Photos cost 5€.

  2. I have found that Citimapper makes the best travel app. This one app works very well in almost any major city, not just Paris. True, only the Mobilité app allows you to purchase/load fares, but you are only loading a fare to a ND card and an Easy card once if I follow your question correctly. This will only take a couple of minutes of your entire vacation in Paris.

  3. The Navigo Easy card is available at any métro/RER/train station, and from many of the RATP´s third party resellers. At locations with service windows only, such as at most métro stations, the cards are purchased at the kiosk, the receipt is exchanged at the service window for the card. The card must then be loaded with the desired fare.

although everyone I know with an ND has used a good photo copy or a computer printed photo, if you are nervous, you can also just cut your head out of a snapshot rather than waiting to use a photo booth.

When the agent checks your pass on routine metro checks, they read it to make sure it has been validated for that ride and glance at the photo to see if it is you. If it is a good clear photo the technology is not going to be an issue. It will be sealed under plastic.
