We are expanding our French TRAIN travels a bit, concentrating on smaller towns. Near the end of one such trip we will find ourselves in Annecy with a need to get to Strasbourg. But not necessarily directly. The train ride from Annecy to Strasbourg is a bit longer than wee prefer and were thinking there might be a nice intermediate stop for a night or two to break up the journey. As I am pretty much completely unfamiliar with anything south of Colmar I was wondering if someone might suggest a suitable intermediate town reachable by TRAIN. We are not in a position to drive or bus. Thanx in advance.
Hi,
Dijon or Beaune make suitable overnight stops, but wher does the rest of your trip go?
Or you could also take the frequent bus to Geneva and cut across Switzerland, with a stop in either Lausanne (2 nights, to explore Lake Geneva) or Bern (1 night, stroll through town).
Actually if you take the bus to Genève Aéroport (Transalis T72) , and from there a train to Strasbourg, you can travel from Annecy to Strasbourg in about six hours. This might remove the need for an overnight stop.
