Annecy to Geneva airport

We are looking at flying out of Geneva and are looking at possibly staying a few nights on Annecy and then heading out. Looks like there are busses running pretty regularly, but with a 12:00 pm flight not sure if we are pushing it or not. We will be in Chamonix previously so looking for a place to stay for a few nights (other than Geneva) so we can make the flight. Anybody have experience with this scenario? Thx in advance, Steve

I am assuming it is a flight to America? Then you need to be at Geneva airport by 9 AM. On a weekday, AM rush hour traffic from Annecy to Switzerland can be quite bad: I would hate to rely on the bus.
A taxi, booked as early as needed (7.30 probably), costs about €100-120 - significant, but much better peace of mind.
Or you could just head to central Geneva for your last night, it is a very pleasant city.

Spend the night before your flight at a hotel near the Geneva airport. There are any number of things that could go wrong if you try to get there the morning of your flight.

hey hey steve
we stayed in annecy for 6 nights and loved this small lake town. we took the train from paris to geneva, spent 2 nights and then a taxi to annecy with taxi-massingy.com which was about 95E. so so worth it, geneva hotel to annecy apt in about 35 minutes. the train was about 2 1/2 hours with stops. when is this trip?
gaelle is owner of taxi, speaks great english and fabulous and efficent to deal/email with. we also did a private tour with her for about 5 hours for 160E. saw places in annecy, small villages around lake, chateau de menthon that disney modeled snow white's castle after his visit. col de la forclaz to watch hang gliders soar right above you and the lake, cows grazing in the green pastures with cowbells on sounding like your in a concert with them. scheduled stop for lunch at ferme de la charbonniere, a working dairy farm. seeing cows stables right beneath your thru glass floors, has set menu for cheese made there. so interesting, pizza oven at table that melts cheese put on potatoes and bread with a chatuerie platter and ice cream for dessert. treated her was about 25E then a ride back thru roads looking at gorgeous mountain views along with "alps" houses.

shuttle to pick up in city center for intro to the area
take a boat ride on lake or rent a bike
had a set price fondue lunch right near canal at larotisseriedethiou.fr sat outside table with our delicious meal and wine.
al vesuvio on rue de i'ile for calzones, wine and pizza. sat with some germans and austrians, was so fun and good
creperie ti mad 21 rue royale for sweet and savory crepes
brasserie saint charles 46 rue de parmelan
was a small bar/cafe near our apt that had the best homemade beef stroganoff, sitting outside and just enjoying it.
la cure gourmande at 1 rue de la paix
is a small cute shop with bisquits, cookies, fruit gems and other goodies in gorgeous french decorated tin cans. was my gifts to bring back to states.
last weekend of september/first weekend of october is the "cows come home" festival descente des alpages
bring the animals down from mountain from winter weather, decorated animals, residents in their outfits, music & food.
walk around the canals of city center many shops, restaurants, market days gets very busy on fridays/sundays. stopped at art shop and bought small painting for souvenirs
hope this gives some insight as to what we did and just enjoyed a small town/village then train back to paris for 8 days. crazy city then with fashionista week, former president cheraq died with long long lines for memorial, techno music festival parade, photographers and papparzzi, political dignitaries from all over the world, police with guns, uzis, tanks police cars at every street corner, just sat a bench or outside bistro/cafe people watching and drinking wine or champagne. my mission accomplished with eating eclairs and souffles. it was great trip

Another option might be Alpy Bus. They seem to only have expensive private transfers to Annecy, but to many locations in the French Alps near Switzerland, they have very reasonable shared shuttles direct to/from the Geneva Airport. They are a British company and operate in English, not French. I've used them and found them quite acceptable (usual sort of airport shuttle van). They dropped me near my friend's house in a small village outside the town I'd asked to go to.

Thanks to this post, I just booked transport from Geneva airport to Annecy with Taxi Massingy for 100 euros, which is at least 70 euros cheaper than I have been able to find thus far! Thank you again!

hey hey shelley
hello from another bay area traveler
happy that you were able to use gaelle's taxi, she is so wonderful and so was our geneva to annecy driver.
how long will you be in annecy and where are you staying?
will you get a car in annecy and do you guys have your IDP's? (international driving permit). some countries say no need, it's the rental car companies that ask or a random stop from the police for "documents". a trip to AAA. $25/2 passport size photos and get it same day. (translation of your DL)
some friend's friend went, didn't have and was denied a car at rental booth. more safe than sorry.

under travel, click rhone alpes. maybe a day trip (+- 2 hours to romans sur isere. known for international shoe museum and models of shoes around the village. pogne brioche (sweetbread), hanging houses from rock in pont en royans, hiking in the gorges near bourne river.
my friend i travel with is french basque, her dad born and raised near saint jean pied de port, and loves france. paris is her favorite city, been a few times but we did this annecy adventure which was great.
have a fabulous time in annecy. since it's fall/harvest/festival season keep an eye out for festivals where you'll be traveling, even tourist kiosks in city center plazas
