Annecy France

I visited Annecy last year. We took a very pleasant boat ride around the lake. One of the sites we saw on a hillside overlooking the lake was a very pretty, scenic castle that caught our eye. It is the Chateau de Menthon - Saint Bernard. That very afternoon upon our return to Annecy, we researched it and took a taxi out there ( there is also a public bus that goes nearby but not right there). If I remember correctly it is about 11 KM from the city. The castle has tremendous views overlooking the lake and towards the surrounding mountains. Admission includes a guided tour and you are free to walk around the grounds. Workers were in period costume. We enjoyed it very much. Small snackbar in the outer courtyard. There was a wedding reception going on in some private rooms. Ticket lady called a taxi for us when we were done to return to Annecy. Annecy is very attractive but also heavily touristed.

love or don't like annecy. there are more people visiting the town now, check out things we did for 5 nights there several years ago, your decision what you want to do. enjoy & have fun
