Annecy & Chamonix

I've got two days after I leave Lyon to burn until I meet up with friends in Murren.

I would like to go to Chamonix and take the cable car/tram to Mont Blanc -- I can't figure out if the lifts will be running on May 9-10. If not, than I was going to head to Annecy but I really wonder if I can do Annecy one night and then Chamonix for one night. I know that it's a marathon run but I will do it if I can get to Mont Blanc. Can anyone offer some suggestions? Thanks.

Here is the website for the lifts with open times and prices: http://www.chamonix.com/aiguille-du-midi,80,en.html#horaires.

I stayed in Annecy for two nights and I do think you need at least a whole day (and then some) to do it justice. I thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've ever stayed. As to one night in each or two nights in Chamonix, you'll have to judge that based on the timing of the cable cars/lifts.

Given the short time period , I would choose one or the other , and not spread it thin . I have not been to Annecy , but understand it is lovely -- I have , though , visited Chamonix twice , and really love the place !

Thank you for the information and your input. As much as I'd like to see Annecy, I really want to go to Mont Blanc since I'm so close.

I would prefer Chamonix. In the past, our tour groups/buses have stopped in Annecy for lunch on the way to Chamonix, but did not give it equal time.

Linda, Annecy is a lovely place. But given your two night time line I say spend both nights in Chamonix if the cable car is running. The trip up to the place just below Mont Blanc is outstanding. TC
