Ammerschwihr, Alsace - anyone?

Hi all
We are a family of 4 adults (including 2 elderly parents) and we plan to visit Ammerschwihr, Alsace end June to early July 2026, for about 5 nights.

We figured out the bus schedules for 68R013 thanks to fellow participants in this forum. (Just to explain the reason we want to stay in this village is because we are from the city and like to get away from cities during our holiday as much as we could, and I found a gite near to a bus stop with bus timings that we are comfortable with, though not frequent. Also we can use the taxi if need to)

Love to hear from others whom have stayed in this village, including restaurants/bakery, vineyards you visited (which paid wine tasting you enjoyed), how you get your supermarketing done etc

We plan to visit Freiburg im Breisgau (day trip), Colmar city area and spend time exploring the Ammerschwihr village. Not much information I can find of this village since other villages are more popular (again we dont need to be in popular villages but happy to stay in a peaceful and scenic area and most importantly because we found a gite we like to stay in this village).

Thanks, love to hear if anyone been there before!

I have not been to Ammerschwihr, just rode past on the bus to Kaysersberg. The same bus from Colmar continues on to Kaysersberg, just a few minutes away and worth an afternoon. Hometown of Albert Schweitzer, the doctor, organist, and missionary. More of the same, way-too-cute half timber buildings with flower boxes everywhere. More touristy, but pleasantly so.

A day trip to Haut Koenigsbourg, is worth considering. It is a restored castle high on a hill. Take the train from Colmar to Selestat and then a bus to the castle, which should be running in June.

Kaysersberg is definitely worth a visit. While in Colmar, the historic village of Turckheim is a short bus or train ride.

Staying in Anmerschwihr relying on public transportation will be challenging. I'm glad you've figured out bus schedules. Do know that summer schedules will be different than the current schedules.

I spent a week in Colmar 3 years ago. I used buses, trains and Kutzig bus to get around. I also booked a wonderful day tour with L'Alsaciette that included several wine tastings, the Haut Konigsberg mentioned in Sam's post, a WWII site and tours of several wine villages.

Thanks for your generous sharing! Will look into these places!

To share, as we are an elderly group haha, we dont/ are unable to do many activities in a day. Hence early morning bus out of AMMERSCHWIHR and late afternoon/evening bus back to AMMERSCHWIHR works for us. We also have hope to visit Freiburg im Breisgau as we were there 7 years ago and enjoyed Denzlingden/ Glotteral area - we also figured out how to get there from Colmar using a bus and a train!

There are two bakeries in Ammerschwihr.
Les délices d’Ammerschwihr (excellent bread) https://maps.app.goo.gl/WKavMXMupsyh5wXG8
Le Fournil du K (for pastries)
https://maps.app.goo.gl/aUvfBEpZ1oV5Dqg37

There are no grocery stores. You have to go to Kaysersberg to shop (same bus):

supermarché Intermarché SUPER Kaysersberg https://maps.app.goo.gl/ZUnmBySX3M3uoNVK6

or the three small (specialties) grocery stores

If you happen to have a bicycle at your disposal, buy your fruit and vegetables at

La Pommeraie https://maps.app.goo.gl/2ofLu5gR59ZT74EZ7

Or at Fruits Bernhard https://maps.app.goo.gl/8mtzNJisLYxd9xAj6

PS: weekly market on mondays 0700-1300 Hr at Kaysersberg Place Gouraud

@Windyram

Thanks very much, I saw the two bakery when combing through Google Map - thanks for recommending good bread!

Got it for the other recommendations. Still finding nearby restaurants for meals and think will look at Kaysersberg too (:
