We are looking at a couple of hotels and at a chambre d'hôtes in Amboise. We don't want an attic room at Minimes and my husband is unsure about the Au Charme Rabelais. We are interested to hear what others found in Amboise, and we will be there the 2nd week of May.
Our two favorites in that area are Novotel Amboise www.novotel.com/gb/hotel-0395-novotel-amboise/index.shtml and a real chateau called Chateau de Pray www.chateaudepray.fr/?lang=en You can't go wrong with either of these.
I stayed at La Grange Chambres and enjoyed it very much. Yveline the owner is funny and charming and speaks "franglais"--you'll really get to know a native. By the way, we walked past Au Charme Rabelais and it looked very nice. Not sure why you have doubts about it.
I second La Grange Chambres. We stayed there last summer and had a delightful time! Large, clean room with a comfortable bed. Charming hostess. Great prices. Pretty garden to enjoy breakfast in during nice weather.
We liked the Hotel le Blason. It's a neat old place that dates back to about 1490. It is well located in easy walk inf distance to the center of town. The rooms are nice and if you are traveling by car, they have parking.
I'll add a third vote for La Grange Chambres. Very nice rooms. Very nice hosts.
