We also are going to Alsace..May 31-June 4. We thought this looked fun: http://www.ame-du-vignoble.eu/index.php/en/train-en. It would be a chance to meet other travelers..no worry about tasting and driving. Just a thought.

I spent 3 days, based in Eguisheim (tiny village very close to Colmar) with a rental car. Loved it all. I was worried about combining wine tasting with driving, but I enjoyed visiting the villages and other sights, limited my wine to a glass at lunchtime, and as much as I wanted at dinner, then walked back to my B&B.
