Alsace - where to eat & drink

Can anyone please share any personal recommendations for restaurants and bars in Strasbourg & in Alsace?

Warning I am absolutely no foodie.
We spent a number of nights at the Maison Rouge Hotel in the lovely smaller town of Barr (easy train trip from Straz).
We ate all our evening meals at their (outdoor) restaurant. Really enjoyed the meals.

Barr was a great location in my opinion, quieter, less touristed. No big name sites in town but delightful Alsatian architecture. Surrounded by vinyards and wonderful (lesser known) little wine villages and the heavily forested Vosges mountains. Within the forests were a number of 13th C castle ruins.
We found it a perfect spot for us. We don't enjoy massive crowds and enjoy taking our time exploring and discovering and having a quiet chat with locals.
Just food for thought.
Cheers.

Eatsroots, that's only funny because I was going to throw out Maison Rouge restaurant in Colmar. It was very, very good.

In Strasbourg I can recommend Restaurant Alsacien Strasbourg Schnockeloch, which is basically across the river west from Little Paris. I recommend the desert menu. I can't recommend Maison Des Tanners, the food was only OK for all it's a popular tourist spot. Most of the time I just hit the local shops and picked up stuff as I went along and made my own meals sitting in a park. Look for Elisabeth Biscarrat for Macarons and Le goût du terroir on the Grand'Rue for cheese!

As for "Alsace" that's pretty vague. Are you really going to visit Wissembourg or Nancy, or all the spots in between?

There's a funky place in Strasbourg near the train station called Troc'afé. Looks like a dive bar -- okay, it probably IS a dive bar -- but actually has a credible beer list and good, regional food. It was a fun, unstuffy place for a lunch.

We ate here in Strasbourg. Great Alsatian food!— Restaurant Chez l’Oncle Freddy, 9, rue des Moulins
We walked to this place because we were staying nearby in Hotel Beaucour, 5 Rue des Bouchers.

We’ll probably work our way down from Strasbourg to Colmar along the ‘route du vin’, but we’re open to recommendations.

These restaurants came highly recommended by our daughter's friend who did a study abroad semester in Strasbourg. We ate at two of her recommendations when we were in Strasbourg and found the food delicious!
Flam's--popular hangout for college students. Serves tarte flambees, a very thin crust pizza with a cream sauce and a variety of toppings as well as dessert flambees. Flambees are a popular food in this region. I seem to remember it was an all you can eat...you order two flambees at a time and can continue to put in requests as long as you can them.
Au Vieux Strasbourg--cute restaurant near the cathedral with really good, authentic Alsatian/German food
Two other restaurants she recommended but we did not try out were Madame Julia and Cafe Bretelles

Thank you. I used to go to Flam’s when I lived in Lyon and loved it. I didn’t realize that it was still about. Thank you for your other recommendations.
